Job Description

Our client is a boutique Sydney CBD litigation firm, with partners drawn from leading national practices, running a small, specialist family law team. The firm is looking for a Family Lawyer with 2+ years PAE, ideally with a commercial background and genuine comfort with numbers, to join the team on a full-time, permanent basis.

About the Firm and Team

• Boutique Sydney CBD firm, with partners who trained and practised at leading national law firms
• Small, specialist family law team: two solicitors at 4-5 years PAE, a solicitor at 7-8 years PAE, an experienced paralegal and legal secretary, led directly by a Partner with close to two decades' exclusive family law experience
• Genuinely accessible leadership — open door policy, no red tape or cumbersome approval processes
• High-value, sophisticated caseload, including complex property matters involving corporate trusts and superannuation structures, often well in excess of $10 million
• Strong precedents already in place across consent orders, affidavits, briefs to counsel and mediation position papers

Why you'll love it here

• Carriage of your own files, commensurate with your experience, with genuine collaboration when it helps
• Direct, hands-on mentoring from a Partner with deep expertise in complex property and parenting matters
• Reasonable billable target (6 hours/day in LEAP), not monitored week to week or month to month
• Individual, not team-based, bonus structure
• Admin support genuinely delegated — paralegal and secretary handle intake, file setup, disclosure indexing and billing, so you can focus on legal work
• Access to forensic accountants and tax lawyers for targeted advice on complex matters
• Flexibility around working from home depending on client and court commitments, discussed at offer stage

About the role

You'll run your own family law caseload with genuine support, working closely with an experienced Partner and the wider team.

• Drafting Applications for Consent Orders, initiating documents, affidavits and briefs to counsel
• Conferencing with clients and preparing mediation position papers and complex advices
• Appearing at directions and procedural hearings, with the option to brief counsel depending on the matter
• Handling complex property matters involving corporate trusts, superannuation structures and high-value asset pools
• Working alongside forensic accountants and tax lawyers on targeted financial questions

What you'll bring

• Minimum 2+ years PAE in family law
• A commercial background or genuine comfort working with financial and corporate structures
• Current NSW practising certificate
• Strong drafting and client communication skills
• A collaborative approach, with the confidence to take on carriage of your own files as you grow
