Job Description

Are you interested in working with children with low vision/blindness?

Extremely exciting opportunity to join a not-for-profit company that supports people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or have low vision. The organisation has been established for over 200 years and delivers world-class services to their clients.

The company provides a holistic approach and has a fantastic multidisciplinary team to deliver this. They are committed to research and innovation, harnessing the latest technologies and new evidence to produce excellent clinical outcomes.

There are currently 2 positions available, one in North Parramatta and the other in Strathfield. Full-time and part-time, with negotiable starting dates on offer.

What you will be doing:

As an Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of clients predominantly aged 0-7 years with low vision and blindness. You will be working with other disciplines involved in the child's care in a 'Team Around the Child' model.

You will also be providing assessment and intervention to school-aged clients and, to a lesser degree, adult clients with hearing loss and/or vision loss. The sorts of conditions you will be seeing include Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, ADD/ADHD and genetic diagnoses/syndromes.

There are also opportunities to upskill in particular areas (if desired) such as: early tactile skills/braille literacy; seating and wheelchair prescription, assistive and access technology; Functional Capacity Assessment as well as all areas of general paediatric OT (handwriting, fine motor, ADLs, sensory processing etc).

How you will be supported:

There is a 6-week induction where you are trained in aspects of low vision, blindness and hearing difficulties. You will shadow sessions of Occupational Therapists as well as other multidisciplinary team members prior to seeing clients.

You will also have a dedicated Clinical Supervisor (experienced OT) and be provided with weekly supervision and regular check-ins. Additionally, there are monthly discipline-specific meetings aimed at providing targeted PD and case discussions. The successful applicant will have access to the company's PD courses at no cost and opportunities to receive funding for degree programs in Sensory Disability.

Working environments:

The company provides services in clinic, community (home, schools and preschools) and telehealth. The split of clinic to community is approximately 50:50 but this can vary depending on caseload and location.

More Benefits:
  • Salaries between $70,000 - $100,000 + super
  • 100% salary packaging so you take home more pay!
