WA Country Health Service is seeking an experienced consultant psychiatrist for the position of
Director of Clinical Services in a coastal resort town in the Kimberley. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced consultant psychiatrist ready to take on broader formal leadership responsibility, influence service design and help shape Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug services across the region.
Appointment and Remuneration: - 12-month fixed-term, full-time appointment
- 1.0 FTE — 80 hours per fortnight
- Potential for extension and/or permanency
- $600,000-$700,000+ per annum, inclusive of base salary, on-call allowance professional development allowance and 12% superannuation

About the Role:
Working in partnership with the Regional Manager of Mental Health and AOD, the Clinical Director holds primary responsibility for clinical governance and leadership relating to clinical service delivery across the Hospital's Acute Psychiatric Unit and regional community-based Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug services.
For an experienced consultant psychiatrist considering their first major director-level appointment, this role offers meaningful exposure to regional leadership, clinical governance and strategic service development. It provides considerable scope to influence clinical practice and support the delivery of safe, high-quality care across a geographically dispersed service environment.
Key Responsibilities: - Provide clinical governance, strategic development and leadership, ensuring adherence to the National Standards for Mental Health Services, the Mental Health Act 2014 (WA), and other relevant legislation and regulations.
- Deliver comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment for consumers, families and carers.
- Collaborate with the mental health leadership team to shape service development and align regional priorities with Commonwealth, State and WA Country Health Service mental health strategies, while providing clinical leadership across the Hospital's Acute Psychiatric Unit and regional community Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug services.
- Provide supervision, mentorship and professional support to psychiatry trainees and the medical health workforce across the Kimberley in accordance with Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists requirements.
We are seeking an experienced psychiatrist who brings: - Current specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
- Senior clinical and/or medical leadership experience, with the ability to provide effective clinical governance and lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong generalist psychiatric skills, including experience across Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug services.
- A commitment to medical education, workforce development and culturally safe practice, together with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinical, operational and community stakeholders.
