Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking an experienced GP VMO or CMO In-Charge to provide solo Emergency Department cover in a regional hospital.

This role suits senior doctors wanting defined locum shifts that can be planned around permanent work, family, leave, travel or other commitments.

You will provide in-charge ED cover, manage acute presentations and work independently with skilled nursing, retrieval and specialty support available.

Clinical Environment

• Regional ED setting
• Solo GP VMO / CMO In-Charge cover
• Day shifts 08:00 – 20:00 and night shifts 20:00 – 08:00
• Onsite presence required for the full shift, excluding breaks
• Support from nursing, retrieval, anaesthetics and gynaecology teams
• Mandatory rest days for locums working 7+ consecutive on-call days

Key Duties

• Provide senior ED cover
• Assess and manage emergency presentations
• Escalate care appropriately when required
• Complete documentation and handover
• Work with nursing, retrieval and hospital teams

Requirements

• AHPRA General or Specialist Registration
• Prior Emergency Medicine experience in a senior or solo capacity
• NSW Working with Children Check and National Police Check
• Australian working rights
• Willingness to complete onboarding and credentialing
