Job Description

Family Lawyer opening with a progressive and collegiate 25 staff law firm that has just relocated into stunning new Parramatta offices. This is a vibrant firm that enjoys long retention rates of staff and provides a very collegiate and pleasant workplace culture.  

About the Family law team:
  • The team is led by an experienced family law specialist and has a team of 3 additional family lawyers with full time paralegals and specialist administration support for the family law team. 
  • It is a progressive law firm that has a team of 25 staff and has built an excellent reputation for its approach and workplace manner since its inception in 2016 when it started with 4 lawyers.

About the position:

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys owning files, guiding clients through emotionally charged issues, and confidently stepping into court when required.
You will manage a varied family law practice including matters such as:
  • Parenting arrangements, recovery and relocation issues, interim disputes
  • Property settlements (including complex asset pools) and spousal maintenance
  • Divorce applications, consent orders and binding financial agreements
  • Family violence-related matters and urgent applications where needed
  • Subpoenas, briefing counsel (when appropriate), and preparing matters for hearing
This role will suit a lawyer comfortable with litigation tasks including:
  • Attending directions hearings, procedural mentions and interim hearings
  • Drafting affidavits, initiating applications, responses and case outlines
  • Negotiations, mediations and settlement strategy (without shying away from court)
You’ll have the autonomy to run your own practice, backed by a supportive leadership team and a culture that values professionalism, momentum and results.

Requirements:
  • Minimum 2-5 years PQE accrued in reputable Family Law firms. 
  • Ability to manage matters end to end with minimal supervision
  • Confidence with litigation and court-facing work (including directions hearings)
  • Strong drafting skills (affidavits, applications, responses, consent orders)
  • Sound knowledge of family law procedure and practical file strategy
  • Empathetic client communication, paired with clear and commercial advice
  • Proactive approach to time management, billing and meeting performance targets
