Job Description

This is a rare opportunity to join a premium Commercial law Firm in Sydney's CBD as a Senior Employment Lawyer. With a strong focus on employer-side representation, you'll bring your established practice and collaborate with the firm to expand it further.

The firm is experiencing significant momentum, having recently appointed new partners and special counsel in key areas like intellectual property and commercial property, bolstering their capabilities across commercial advisory, franchising, and dispute resolution.

If you're a commercially minded lawyer looking for autonomy, partnership potential, and a supportive environment to scale your employer-focused practice, this could be your next move.

Salary & Features Of this Opportunity
  • Competitive package of $300,000 - $350,000 + Super, with the expectation that your brought practice will contribute to covering costs—bonus potential based on performance and growth.
  • Supportive structure to expand your practice, including marketing, cross-practice referrals, and professional development.
  • Modern Sydney CBD offices with a collaborative, commercially minded team.
  • Opportunities for involvement in firm-wide initiatives, podcasts, and thought leadership in emerging areas.

About the Role
  • Take the lead on employer-side employment matters, including restraints of trade, workplace investigations, compliance with new laws (e.g., right to disconnect), unfair dismissals, and advisory on independent contractors vs. employees.
  • Bring and integrate your portable practice, with full firm support to grow it through cross-referrals in complementary areas like franchising, corporate advisory, and commercial litigation.
  • Enjoy high levels of autonomy while working collaboratively with a progressive team on high-value, complex matters for national and international clients.
  • Contribute to the firm's expansion in employment-related advisory, leveraging their established expertise in commercial and real estate services.
About the Firm

This premium boutique firm, with offices in Sydney CBD combines over 20 years of experience in franchising, intellectual property, corporate law, mergers & acquisitions, insolvency, real estate, and litigation. With a team of 40-50 professionals, they offer the resources of a larger firm alongside the personalised attention of a smaller one. Recent hires, including a new IP partner and special counsel in property, highlight their commitment to growth and enhancing client services. Known for a progressive culture that values collaboration, exceptional work, and client value, they foster an environment where lawyers can thrive without the bureaucracy of bigger firms.

What You Bring
  • 10 -15 + years PQE in employment law, with a proven track record representing employers (not employees) in advisory, disputes, and compliance matters.
  • A portable practice or book of clients that you can bring and grow, demonstrating strong business development skills.
  • Current admission to practice in Australia, with excellent academics and a commercial mindset.
  • Experience in related areas like franchising, corporate advisory, or workplace investigations would be advantageous.
  • Ambition to contribute to a growing firm with potential for partnership.
