Junior Employment Lawyer wanted for boutique practice. Work directly with the Principal, applicant-side focus, genuine partnership pathway.
This is a rare opportunity for a junior employment lawyer to work side by side with a highly experienced Principal in a genuinely boutique practice. You won't be one of many junior lawyers reporting up several layers of hierarchy — you'll have direct, close access to the Principal on every matter, learning employment law the way it's meant to be taught: through real files, real client contact, and real mentorship.
The work is strictly employment law, with a strong applicant-side focus — advising individuals on their rights and entitlements across contract negotiations, terminations, workplace investigations, and tribunal or court proceedings. You'll be supported by a paralegal, so your time stays focused on legal work rather than admin.
This role suits someone looking for a long-term home rather than a stepping stone — the Principal is genuinely open to discussing a partnership pathway for the right person over time.
Salary and benefits: - Saalry range of $90,000 - $150,000 (Junior to 5 PAE level)
- Unmatched access and mentorship — you'll work directly with the Principal on every matter, not several rungs removed
- Genuine partnership pathway on offer for the right long-term fit
- Purely employment law — no dilution across unrelated practice areas
- A boutique, empathetic culture built on trust and genuine care for clients
- Sydney CBD location (Pitt Street)
The Firm
This boutique legal practice was established in Sydney in 2019 and has since grown to include a second office interstate. Founded on the belief that law should be done differently — with empathy, respect and a genuine focus on client outcomes — the practice has built a strong reputation among clients who've experienced the impersonal side of bigger firms and are looking for something better. The team brings decades of combined experience in workplace and industrial law across every Australian state and territory, and has worked on both sides of employment disputes, giving genuine insight most competitors don't have.
What You'll Bring - Admission as a solicitor, with 1-2+ years' PAE (2+ preferred, but strong 1 PAE candidates will be considered)
- Genuine interest in employment law, ideally with some applicant-side exposure
- Comfort working closely and directly with a senior practitioner, taking on real responsibility early
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a client-focused, empathetic approach
- A long-term mindset — this is a role for someone who wants to build a career and genuinely grow with the practice, not just gain a PAE credit and move on
