Job Description

About the Firm:
  
Our client is a specialist employment law and workplace investigations firm with boutique teams based in major Australian CBD offices. They partner with leading corporates, universities, financial institutions and government agencies on the full spectrum of workplace and industrial relations issues – from day-to-day advisory work through to complex investigations and litigation.

They are known for high-quality technical work, a genuinely flexible working model and a deliberate focus on being an employer of choice for their legal team.

Salary Range and benefits: 
  • $160,000 - $190,000 
  • Flexible working across office and from home by agreement
  • Business development incentives plus discretionary bonuses at senior levels
  • $2,500 staff referral bonus (less tax) after 6 months’ service
  • Part-time lawyers paid hourly for additional work on non-rostered days
  • Option to purchase extra annual leave
  • Parental leave after 12 months: 8 weeks’ paid (or 16 weeks at half pay) on top of Government PPL

About the position:

In this role you will:
  • Run and supervise workplace investigations into bullying, discrimination, sexual harassment, serious misconduct and whistleblower / public interest disclosure matters
  • Advise employer clients on unfair dismissal and general protections claims, discrimination and harassment complaints, performance and misconduct management, redundancies and organisational change
  • Work on enterprise agreement and industrial relations issues, including modern award interpretation and compliance projects
  • Draft and refine employment contracts, policies, procedures, show cause letters, investigation reports and settlement deeds
  • Manage a varied, steady file load for sophisticated public and private sector clients with support from an experienced leadership team
  • Contribute to business development initiatives, client training, seminars and publications focused on workplace culture, conduct and compliance
Key Requirements:
  • Admitted as a Solicitor in Australia with a current practising certificate
  • Solid background in employment / workplace relations law, ideally acting for employers
  • Experience in workplace investigations, or a genuine interest in developing this skill set
  • Exposure to matters such as unfair dismissal, general protections, discrimination, bullying, performance management and redundancy
  • Strong drafting skills across contracts, policies, advices and investigation reports
  • Ability to manage client relationships, juggle competing deadlines and work autonomously when required
  • Team-focused mindset with an interest in supporting and mentoring junior lawyers
