The Firm: Established in 2002, Our client is a well-established Sydney CBD commercial law firm with a strong national reputation built across franchising, real estate, corporate advisory, and commercial disputes.
The firm has grown deliberately over the past decade through strategic appointments and now operates with an integrated commercial offering that generates genuine cross-referral opportunities for its litigation team.
The culture is non-hierarchical and commercially focused — practitioners are backed to build their practices and rewarded directly for what they bring in and retain. This is not a firm that builds empires around equity partners; it backs the right people and gets out of the way.
The Role:This is a hands-on practice-building role, not a management track. You will take carriage of your own commercial disputes: contract and debt matters, restraints of trade, franchise and commercial leasing disputes, IP enforcement, and insolvency-related litigation. You will also draw on a warm referral pipeline from the firm's existing commercial, corporate, and franchise client base — a meaningful advantage for a practitioner growing a practice.
This role is built for two types of people: a partner or senior associate at a mid-size or larger firm who is frustrated by internal politics, billing targets imposed by others, or the absence of genuine equity;
or a sole practitioner or boutique operator who is tired of running everything alone and wants proper infrastructure, a team, and a referral network around them. In both cases the requirement is the same: a transportable practice, a hands-on approach, and the drive to build something.
REQUIREMENTS• Admitted solicitor with 10+ years PAE in commercial litigation and dispute resolution
• Demonstrable transportable practice — client relationships that will move with you
• Strong track record across commercial disputes: contract, restraint, franchise, property, or insolvency
• Comfortable appearing in state and federal courts and tribunals
• Hands-on: you run your own matters, not just supervise others
• Commercial and pragmatic: manages client expectations and runs cost-effective resolutions
• Collaborative — fits a team that has no time for internal politics
