Job Description

Senior Family Lawyer (5+ PAE) | Autonomy, Court Work & True Work-Life Flexibility

Join a busy Melbourne CBD boutique where family law litigation is a core focus and your experience is trusted from day one. This is a role for a confident practitioner who wants meaningful work, strong autonomy, and extremely flexible working arrangements.

Why you'll love it here
  • Salary: $130,000 - $160,000 + super
  • Extremely flexible working arrangements
  • Complex and engaging family law matters — property + children's files
  • Regular court exposure in the Federal Circuit & Family Court
  • Intervention Orders work where relevant
  • Boutique environment with a broader multi-practice offering (referral depth and variety)

The role

This is a senior seat where you'll drive matters forward with confidence and clarity. You will:
  • Lead family law litigation matters from initial advice through to court events
  • Appear in court and/or instruct counsel strategically
  • Manage property and parenting disputes with a solutions-focused mindset
  • Draft and refine court documents and correspondence to a high standard
  • Provide clear advice that helps clients understand options and next steps

Your background

You bring maturity to the table and you don't need hand-holding. You'll have:
  • 5+ years' post-admission experience in family law litigation (or equivalent)
  • A current Victorian practising certificate
  • Strong advocacy experience or confidence in running court-facing matters
  • High-level organisation, judgement, and attention to detail
  • A collaborative style — you can work independently while supporting the wider team

What success looks like (first 90 days)
  • Quickly take carriage of active files and set a clear strategy for each matter
  • Deliver consistently strong drafting and court preparation
  • Build trust with clients through steady communication and practical advice
  • Maintain momentum across competing deadlines without compromising quality
  • Contribute to a positive team rhythm in a high-demand environment
