Job Description

Key Highlights

  • Greater autonomy and practice leadership than a traditional mid-tier or national firm, without sacrificing infrastructure, brand, or a credible Sydney CBD address

  • Salary Range : $300K - $400K | pending what you can bring to the firm
About the Firm

Our client is a well-regarded Sydney CBD commercial law firm operating across a broad range of practice areas including construction, corporate advisory, insolvency, real estate, and dispute resolution.
The firm acts for developers, head contractors, subcontractors, and growth-stage commercial clients. It has built a strong market reputation on the back of deep industry knowledge, high-quality work, and long-standing client relationships — and is now actively growing its senior team.

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Building and Construction lawyer at Partner or Special Counsel level to lead and grow its construction practice.
The role suits someone with genuine expertise across the full spectrum of construction law — from front-end contract advisory through to security of payment claims, adjudication, building defects, and complex dispute resolution. The successful candidate will bring an established referral network or portable client following and will take ownership of the practice from day one.

On Offer
  • Practice leadership and genuine autonomy in a boutique that values origination and entrepreneurial instinct
  • Cross-referral access to an existing commercial client base spanning franchise groups, real estate agencies, and corporate advisory clients — all of whom generate construction-adjacent legal need
  • A collaborative, modern partnership culture in Sydney CBD with competitive commercial terms
  • Direct access to a partner-led team with strong commercial connectivity and a genuine appetite to back a senior construction practice lead
Requirements
  • Admitted solicitor with 8 or more years post-admission experience in building and construction law
  • Demonstrated expertise in security of payment (SOPA), contract drafting and negotiation, construction disputes, and defect claims
  • Experience acting for head contractors, subcontractors, developers, or a mix of construction sector clients
  • Established client relationships or a portable client base, or a well-developed referral network in the construction sector
