Job Description

Our client is an award-winning boutique disputes, restructuring and insolvency firm based in Sydney, recognised among the leading specialist firms nationally in both commercial litigation and insolvency. They are seeking an Associate to join their team, working directly with Partners and Special Counsel on complex commercial disputes, contentious insolvency, asset recovery and cross-border matters

About the firm and team:

• Partners with genuinely elite pedigree, including training and courtroom experience at leading global and international firms
• Recognised among the top boutique litigation and insolvency firms in the country by major legal directories
• A rapidly growing team, with recent senior partner and leadership appointments reflecting real momentum
• A specialist, conflict-free practice focused solely on disputes and insolvency, so the work runs deep rather than wide
• A flat structure giving Associates genuine, direct access to Partners and Special Counsel, not layers of Senior Associates to work through

Why you'll love it here:

• Direct access to Partners and Special Counsel from day one
• Genuine ownership of matters end to end — strategy, evidence, drafting and settlement, not just research and drafting tasks
• Exposure to complex, high-value work: contentious insolvency, asset recovery, cross-border disputes, shareholder and director disputes
• Real mentoring and development, including the opportunity to supervise junior team members yourself
• A firm that invests in your professional profile, with opportunities to contribute to articles, presentations and business development

About the role:

You'll take day-to-day carriage of disputes matters of moderate complexity, working across litigation strategy, drafting and client management from the outset.

• Taking day-to-day carriage of disputes matters of moderate complexity
• Drafting pleadings, advices, evidence, submissions, correspondence and settlement documents
• Assisting in developing case theory and litigation strategy
• Managing timetables, key dates and matter progress
• Liaising directly with clients, counsel, experts and opposing solicitors
• Preparing for and attending case management, directions and interlocutory hearings
• Supervising junior lawyers, graduates, paralegals and clerks on allocated tasks

What you'll bring:

• 3-5 years PAE, predominantly in commercial litigation, dispute resolution or contentious insolvency
• Hands-on litigation experience: pleadings, evidence, interlocutory steps, court procedure and settlement strategy
• Strong drafting, research and analytical skills
• Sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities
• Confidence communicating with clients, counsel and other stakeholders
• A genuine interest in developing junior team members and building your profile in a specialist disputes practice
